Can you describe your role at Sullivan?
As a Project Manager, I am responsible for managing the life cycle of my projects, mainly at hydro-electric generating stations. My duties range from engineering and contract administration to reviewing shop drawings and preparing costs and schedule reports. I learn something new every day!
How has your career grown since starting at Sullivan?
I have enhanced and picked up many new skills as this is my first project management job. In addition, I’m continuously learning construction practices, which is something I’ve always enjoyed.
What do you like most about working at Sullivan?
I enjoy the work environment here at Sullivan. My team members and the management team are very easy to get along with.
Human Resource Generalist
Can you describe your role at Sullivan?
As the Human Resources Generalist I am responsible for supporting the Director, Human Resources with the administration, interpretation, and application of a wide range of human resources policies and procedures. I provide day-to-day human resources management services for employees within Sullivan and will be the support for an employee’s life cycle at Sullivan.
How has your career grown since starting at Sullivan?
One of the reasons I joined Sullivan was because I knew I would be able to learn and grow in my career. My manager has supported me in finding personal development goals to further my career and continue to gain new skills. I have already been able to lead new projects on my own and take the lead on different initiatives.
What do you like most about working at Sullivan?
Starting a new career at a new company is very nerve wracking. The one thing I love is the culture at Sullivan and how they treat their employees. Transitioning from a large corporation I realized working with a family makes coming into work every day a great experience and you feel you are not just a number at a large company.
Project Manager
How has your career grown since starting at Sullivan?
I started with Sullivan working in the Arnprior Builders’ Supplies/Rona store during high school, then transitioned into a site surveyor and quality control position in the field during the summers or when my schedule permitted while attending post-secondary school. Once I graduated, I moved into the office as a Coordinator and quickly moved into a Project Manager role as opportunities arose and additional hands were needed. Since that time, the company has grown exponentially and more opportunities continue to come about that allow internal advancement, as well as movement between divisions for personal development.
What do you like most about working at Sullivan?
As part of the Sullivan family, I love to say that I am a fifth-generation family member working in the day-to-day operations and that I started from the bottom to work my way up through the organization. Across the board, hard work is highly valued in the company and the limits are endless for anyone willing to put in the time and effort.
What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?
- Maintain a healthy work-life balance. Although there are times when you are needed to stay late for completion of a task, they shouldn’t become the norm. You need time to switch off from work, make sure that you give yourself permission to do it.
- Be a team player. A successful career comes from working and developing with your team, whatever that may look like. Pitching in where needed and helping colleagues in need is much more recognizable than stepping on people who are down in order to get ahead.
- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The mistakes you make don’t define you, how you pick yourself up and learn from them is most crucial. We all make them, just take them as a learning opportunity and move forward.
Construction Estimator
What has been your favourite project at Sullivan and why?
I like working on OPG projects as I usually get involved in my favourite part of construction: concrete and steel scopes. I also like cross-divisional projects as I have a chance to learn more about different architectural divisions.
How has your career grown since starting at Sullivan?
Thanks to the support I have received from management, I have been involved with different types of project estimation. My work on various projects for different clients has given me the chance to develop my knowledge on different approach required for estimate preparation process. I also received great support from my co-workers when it comes to learning procedures and the company’s culture and environment.
What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?
- Teamwork is key to successfully completing projects
- Time management has been the main factor in my career growth
- Experience can’t be gained without hard work

What has been your favourite project at Sullivan and why?
My favorite project at Sullivan was TAPV in Petawawa. I love working with DCC and DND and I am proud to support our Canadian military.
How has your career grown since starting at Sullivan?
I started working with Sullivan in 2002 out in the field. I gained as much experience as I could on site before moving into the office as a project coordinator. Shortly after I transitioned into the PM role. I have worked on all types of projects Construction Management, Lump Sum, Design Build, Modified Design Build, Target Price and the list goes on. Sullivan has also supported my desire to expand my education along the way. I have been able to take several courses to advance my career.
What are three career lessons you've learned thus far?
- Get a job you enjoy! In construction you can’t always chose the project you work on so it’s important to make every project you are working on enjoyable. Think outside the box. Make it a fun experience for everyone involved.
- Never stop learning! Ask questions. All the time. There is always room to learn something new.
- Look after yourself. Do something outside of work that you enjoy. When you take a break to keep your soul happy it makes a difference in everything you do.
Project Coordinator
What has been your favourite project at Sullivan and why?
My favourite project at Sullivan would be the Arnprior Generating Station – Sluice Gate
Controls project. The attention to detail on this project has all team members heavily involved and collaborating to plan and execute project tasks.
What do you like most about working at Sullivan?
What I like most about working at Sullivan is the large variety of projects you get to work on and the experienced professionals you are teamed up with to deliver a high-quality product to our clients.

- Safety is always the priority.
